Summary for the week ending Apr 15, 2018

Here’s a summary of activity for the week ending April 15th, 2018.

I’ve been streaming a lot. There’s been something every day for the last couple of weeks. I probably can’t keep up that pace, but it’s been fun!

The audio issue during the IRL Cooking with Rigaroga! streams turns out to have been an issue with the power supply to the camera phone. I tried tons of things, only to discover that if I unplugged the phone, the audio was very nice. The new lavalier mic helps, for sure, as well.

Warhammer 40k Roleplay got postponed until the next Sunday, but I played Dungeons & Dragons in science-fantasy Spelljammer and gothic horror Curse of Strahd settings this week.

This week I also posted an interview with Twitch streamer Isaac Velazquez aka IceMan, so you should check that out.

And, in a final note, I just reached the milestone of 250 hours of streamed content on Twitch. That’s everything since my first stream back on 2014. A lot of that has been recent, since I’ve been streaming more regularly and longer, but either way, it’s a big number and super nifty to see the progress I’ve been making lately as a streamer in real terms.

Here’s a summary of activity for the week ending April 8th, 2018.

Last week I was surprised and honored to be selected by the Nomads as Streamer of the Month for April 2018!

Rigaroga Nomads Streamer of the Month April 2018

Got some JerkyPro Honey Glazed Beef Jerky sent to me as a gift from the Nomads.

I also started up an experimental new Cooking with Rigaroga! series. I’ve cooked two meals on stream, using meal kits from Home Chef, and I’d love to keep doing them. Consider clicking through and signing up for food delivery and we’ll both get $30 in credit, then you get great food, and I get to keep cooking on stream.

I’ve been having some issues with the audio for those cooking streams, essentially because I’ve got an entirely different set of gear to use in the kitchen. I have a new lavalier mic to try for the third stream, to see if I can keep improving the audio. Like everything, I say do what you can with what you have for as long as you are able to improve something every day.

One other brand new thing this last week! Technically it was this week, because it was on Monday morning, but still … I started a new D&D Curse of Strahd live stream actual play.

Dungeons & Dragons Curse of Strahd Twitch live stream actual play

This is the third live stream actual play series, and it was the first session of the new campaign, players I’ve not played with before, and new characters, including mine which I created over the weekend just in time to join. I’m pretty sure this new character is the first paladin I’ve ever played, which should be fun to try out in Barovia.

And, in a final note, I’m making progress on a number of achievements, and should, this week, hit a total of 250 hours of live streaming since I started with my first stream back in September of 2014! It’s been a bumpy road, from there to here, but the last few months have been really awesome. Thanks for joining me for the all fun!

Summary for the week ending Apr 1, 2018

Here’s a summary of activity for the week ending April 1st, 2018.

This last week was my first as a Twitch Affiliate! Last summary, I posted about how I’d qualified but couldn’t apply yet. Later that day, I was able to complete the process and have been accepted. I now have the ability to offer subscriptions to my Twitch channel, and people can cheer in chat with bit. I’ve already had some great people subscribe and cheer in my channel. You should join this band of illustrious and handsome band of supporters of the stream!

One thing I’ve had to get used to again is exporting my streams from Twitch to YouTube. I used to do that, in order to keep an archive of all the old streams because otherwise they would disappear as they expire on Twitch. Then I was using Restream.io to simultaneously broadcast to Twitch, Mixer, and YouTube. But, as a Twitch Affiliate, I broadcast to Twitch and then have to delay adding that to my archive at YouTube. So each day, I have tried to remember to start the export process. One wrinkle is that means, if I stream on Sunday, that I have to wait for the export to complete and process before adding a link to it on these weekly summary posts! Also, I have to remember to click all the buttons and fill in all the fields across the next day.

Either way, it’s been a fun week as a new Twitch Affiliate with game streams and roleplaying, for sure. I had a lot of awesome response to checking out Puzzle Pirates for Casual Friday, and played a one shot game of the Space Hulk tabletop game and a session of Warhammer 40k Roleplay this weekend.

Also, this last week I posted an interview with Nomads Streamer of the Month for March 2018: Lokisaul!

Summary for the week ending Mar 25, 2018

Here’s a summary of activity for the week ending March 25th, 2018.

After last week, I’ve been in a bit of a tizzy and funk over having suddenly learned I needed to move house in a month, so I didn’t get posts scheduled to the blog for every day as I would have done normally. However …

This weekend, on Saturday, in the middle of a live stream, I reached an average of 3 viewers over the last 30 days. Finally! Huzzah!

Rigaroga Twitch Who watches the watchers?

That was the last goal to complete in order to qualify for Twitch Affiliate. Being an Affiliate means people can subscribe and send cheers on Twitch to help support the stream, as well as a few other cool things. One trade off is that I won’t be able to simultaneously stream to all three of my Twitch, YouTube and Mixer accounts anymore. I feel like focusing my efforts at Twitch, and exploring some extra streams occasionally to the others, is the way to go.

Rigaroga Twitch Path to Affiliate

Currently, the “Get Started” button goes to a settings page with no useful options or information, so I suspect that something got hung up or there’s a manual flip required. But, I’ve completed Path to Affiliate!

Rigaroga Twitch You’ve completed Path to Affiliate

I’ve got a long way to go to reach Partner, but the only thing I need are viewers, like you!

Rigaroga Twitch Path to Partner

There’s two things that changed for me recently, that I have to credit for this rise in viewership for my streams. I’ve been streaming for several years, without much change in how many people watched my streams. The first thing that changed is that I started to stream live actual play sessions of tabletop roleplaying games: D&D Spelljammer and Warhammer 40k Deathwatch so far, and I’d love to do more! Then other thing that changed is that I’ve become a member of the Nomads, a group of streamers and esports players, who have been very supportive as a community, so you should check them out!

Summary for the week ending Mar 18, 2018

Here’s a summary of activity for the week ending March 18th, 2018.

This weekend was set to be quite busy for live streaming actual play. The Pathfinder game was a bust, but I was able to play another session of D&D Spelljammer and the first session of Warhammer 40k Roleplay Deathwatch this weekend. Be sure to check those playlists out for past sessions and plan on coming to the next ones!

In possibly devastating personal news, I learned this week that the place I have been living will be put on the market. In worse news, I learned that there may already be an offer, and I’ll have to move out by the end of April. Frankly, I’m kinda screwed. I don’t know how this will work out for me, but it may mean a lot of awful things for me and the cats, as I’ve currently nowhere to go and no money to get there. I honestly don’t know what’s going to happen.

I could really use some support from Patrons to help out during this time, even just $1, each month, so if you can spare anything that would be amazing. You can also subscribe to Odd Order anthologies, over on Bandcamp. Another way to offer support is through the anonymous, nonprofit Liberapay.

Summary for the week ending Mar 11, 2018

Here’s a summary of activity for the week ending March 11th, 2018.

Oh boy! This week I’ve been busy getting ready for some new live streaming actual play sessions. I’ve been getting familiar with Pathfinder Roleplaying Game and Warhammer 40k Roleplay, specifically Deathwatch, systems I’ve not played before; creating characters to play and talking about campaign settings. But, it’s coming together!

This weekend, I’ll be doing three live streams of actual play roleplaying. Come hang out with us as we play!

On Friday, I’m doing a one-shot which might lead into a full campaign using Pathfinder, Ultimate Intrigue, and more.

Then, on Saturday morning, I’m back with the crew for our ongoing D&D Spelljammer sessions.

And, then, on Sunday, I’m starting a new campaign, which will be running fornightly, using the Warhammer 40k Roleplay Deathwatch system.

Meanwhile, I’m still looking for other virtual tables with an open chair, so check out my looking for a group page for more about that.

Summary for the week ending Feb 11, 2018

Here’s a summary of activity for the week ending Feb 11th, 2018.

I’ve recently joined up with the Nomads, “a gaming organization with community-foundations for all wandering gamers looking for a place called home.” I’m hoping there’s synergy. I’ve been at the streaming thing for several years off and on, and have only just started to get some viewers now. As a variety streamer, I’m not really into competitive esports, but having a group interested in mutual support could be a great thing if it works out.

You may also want to check out the Nomads, whether you’re a streamer or like to watch streams. They do have a bunch of esports teams in several games, but are also a group that has several variety streamers involved. Also, you can quickly check out all the Nomads currently streaming displayed on the website. Go check out who’s online and drop into their stream!

Another new thing this week is that I’ve joined an ongoing actual play of Dungeons & Dragons 5e Spelljammer. The ongoing campaign is called “Jamming with the Stars” and after playing an initial session off stream and running a technical test, I started to stream our sessions starting this last Saturday. I can barely imagine trying to run a session as DM and also handling the live stream, so I think it works out well for everyone that I take on the streaming part. But, that’s planned for every Saturday at 9:30am Pacific.

I’ve been adding events on Twitch, so you can get a reminder about an hour before the show starts. You can also catch the archived streams over on my channel at YouTube saved to a playlist.

Hey, I also got a Razer Naga Hex, a new gaming mouse. I’ve already seen a huge improvement in my Fortnite performance (I’m still pretty awful, just, you know, a bit better) especially as I can now build using the programmable buttons instead of fumbling with the Fn key combo to modify my function keys into normal function keys. But, it’s like any new equipment: it’ll take a bit of time to get used to it.
